Obituary for Henry Francis Tregillas

Henry Francis Tregillas
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the greatest husband, Dad, Papa and friend on January 28, 2016. Henry Francis “Trig” Tregillas, son of John “Jack” and Gertrude Tregillgas was born March 28, 1932 in Sydney, Australia. He was predeceased by his parents and also his brother, John Tregillgas, and his sister Mary Geoffroy. Trig is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jeanette, his three children John (Aminta), Jenny (Jock MacDougall), Karen (Randy Smith), his five grandchildren Victoria and Andrew Tregillas, Stephanie and Anna MacDougall, and Makena Smith and by his three nephews, Peter, Paul and Mark Tregillgas and their families in Sydney, Australia. Henry, a commercial photographer, is well known in the advertising community of Vancouver. He arrived in Vancouver in 1954, photographed the British Empire and Commonwealth Games, John Landy’s and Roger Bannister’s mile, the many Royal Visits as well as visits by many prominent world leaders. He pioneered colour photography at the Vancouver Sun, worked at Graphic Industries, Wallis-Tregillas Photography and was very successful on his own at Henry Tregillas Photography. Trig was prominent in the squash community of Vancouver as a valued member of the Canadian Jesters, of Evergreen Squash Club and of the Vancouver Racquets Club, competing in US vs Canada and international tournaments. He loved fishing, boating, skiing at Whistler from its very beginning and was also an excellent tennis player. Travels took him to South Africa, the UK, Hawaii, Mexico and many visits back to Australia. It was 58 years ago on the top of Grouse Mountain that the two Aussies met and started a long and happy marriage. Being so far away from home, Trig and Jeanette have appreciated their very close friends who became extended family. Everyone who met Trig was warmed by his honesty, integrity, generosity, sportsmanship, true friendship and belly laughing humour. The family is grateful for the wonderful care given by his family physician of more than 30 years, Dr. Wayne Smith and we would like to thank the staff and volunteers of the North Shore Hospice for their compassion, respect and professionalism. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation in tribute to Henry “Trig” Tregillas.
