Obituary for Sharon Elaine Miachika

Sharon Elaine Miachika
MIACHIKA, Sharon Elaine (Nelson)
Sharon passed away peacefully on April 10, 2016 with her husband by her side after a courageous battle against cancer. Although we are deeply saddened by our loss, we know that Sharon has gone to glory to be with her Lord. Sharon was born in Lacombe, Alberta on August 11, 1955, and at an early age moved with her family to Fargo, North Dakota, and then with her parents to Port Townsend, Washington, ultimately settling in Fort Langley, British Columbia. Sharon attended Trinity Western University and later BCIT. As a young independent woman, Sharon moved to Vancouver where she worked at the newly opened Holt Renfrew and the Hyatt Hotel. Sharon continued to support herself by working 2 jobs at Woodwards Food Floor and as one of the original female servers at the Keg #1 in North Vancouver. She then met the love of her life, David, in 1981 and after marriage in July, 1985, moved to Halifax to support her husband's career, working at the Upper Deck at Privateer's Warehouse. They moved back to settle in North Vancouver, where Sharon continued to work as a top sales rep at Pell Business Equipment and in various other sales and marketing positions, all the while honouring her parents by caring for them in their later years. Sharon was an avid golfer (played at St. Andrews and Royal County Down), skier, birder, gardener, lover of the outdoors and of all creatures great and small. She had a special gift for listening and being understanding of others, especially with young children and the elderly. Most of all, Sharon was a devoted wife and best friend to David, and a witness to all as a gentle and loving Christian woman. She will be deeply missed. Sharon was predeceased by her parents, Rev. Stanley and Esther Nelson, and her brother, David Nelson. She is survived by her husband David, her brothers and sister, Ken Nelson (Ginny), Mel Nelson (Cia), and Joyce Morgan, her mother-in-law, Barbara Miachika (Mike Weiland), her brothers-in-law, Anthony Miachika (Victoria) and Paul Miachika (Julie), and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A service is scheduled for April 27, 2016, 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Seymour United Church, 1200 Parkgate Ave., North Vancouver, with interment and a reception to follow. The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors at the Seymour Medical Clinic, the BC Cancer Agency, the Lions Gate Palliative ward, and North Shore Hospice. Donations of remembrance may be made to the Lions Gate Foundation (c/o North Shore Hospice) or the BC Cancer Foundation.
